Exploring methods of two-dimensional documentation (3)Phase One, H20

At Konrad & Neumann Studiotechnik in Günding near Munich, we tested the Danish Phase One H5 and H20 digital camerabacks, for Hasselblad and Mamiya cameras, among others. The H5 has a 6 megapixel chip, the H20 the new 16 megapixel chip, which results in larger files (48 MB for 24-bit RGB images) and sharper detail capturing. For many subjects, the quadratic image format may not be optimal though, so that a part of the available capacity will be lost by cropping the image.Jenoptik, Eyelike MF

We also took a look at the Eyelike MF, produced by Jenoptik in Eching near Munich. Like the Phase One H5 and H20, the Eyelike can be combined with flashlight. Moreover, this product line has a multi-shot option. The scanback is controlled by an Apple notebook; the software is not compatible with MS Windows.

Anagramm reproduction studioBoth digibacks had excellent test notes. Looking for the ultimate in quality, however, we finally met with Anagramm GmbH, an electronics company related with Linhof Precision Cameras GmbH in Munich.

Over the last years, Anagramm has developed its picturegate product line of very high resolution digital scanbacks for 4" x 5" large format cameras.Anagramm "Salvadore" digital scanback

The Salvadore scanback with 8000 x 9700 pixel offers a resolution that equals the quality of an analog camera, with the advantage of advanced software controls for tone curve and density, compatability with Gretag color management etc. Because of these features, Anagramm products are especially suitable for high-end still life and reproduction purposes - and for photographing art objects.
